Very excited when I got a call from Al at Partsheaven (Porsche dismantler in Hayward, CA); that he had just dragged out an "unmolested" 914 from a local garage. The car had been abandoned by the owner many years ago a sat unused for decades. I immediately drove down to his shop and bought the car on the spot. The car was very dirty; flat tires; but all the parts were there ! Because I bought it from Partsheaven; I had to accept a "Salvage" title. There were no indications of any wrecks or damage to the car. After a through cleaning inside and out; we removed all exterior trim, lights, etc and removed the paint down to bare metal. We noticed some very small dings but no indication of any major repairs. We applied a coating of Rustmort; a thin coating of Bondo (which we sanded off; so the panels are very straight ); and then applied an Epoxy Primer/Sealer ; we then added a "guide coat" and wet sanded the body down to 2000 grit.; filled all pinholes and wet sanded again. We then applied several coats of color (in the original Yellow) and several coats of Dupont Deltron clear. Next we cut out the "hell hole" and welded in a new piece. We reassembled the cars lights etc. Added new door handles and seals and replaced every rubber part in the car (door, trunk, front, body seals). Did a complete brake redo; added new taillights and markers; replaced front and rear lower valances; changed engine lid cable and latch; new trunk lock; all new tires on refinished and painted original rims; then had the front end aligned. Went thru all wiring. New bulbs and headlights all around. Purchased shift bushing kit for Easton Motors to install and align. Installed new sun visors. Some work still to be done: Bolsters on Driver's side seat; cabin rugs; then install sound system of your choice ! A great car at a great price !
